I did a Bsc in Physiotherapy at University of Witwatersrand in Gauteng. I was mainly on East campus for my first year but after that we were based at medical school. I chose Wits because for physiotherapy it is one of the best internationally.
On Main campus it seems the social life is buzzing but we saw very little of this as I was not on Main campus. Medical school was very quiet and focused on academics.
For medical degrees Wits is rated very highly but I cannot comment onย the other faculties.
I only really had contact with students in the medical field. It’s true what they say:โStudy hard, Play hardโ. The libraries are full during the terms but once on holiday we socialized and relaxed to refuel for the next semester.
Wits is central with many residences on campus or close by so students are able to come from far and wide to study at Wits. I feel that the lecturers were well educated and academic, and driven to help their students succeed.
For a health sciences degree I would definitely recommend Wits. However, for other degrees I would suggest students research which institutions offer their chosen degree at an internationally recognized level and how the degree at a specific institution is rated internationally. At the end of the day you go to University to get a good degree so donโt choose your university based on social life and other activities. Make sure you will come out with a good degree to take you places in your career
Wits is based in the middle of the concrete jungle of Johannesburg, one of the greenest cities in the world. I grew up in this city and I love it. There is something for everyone. No matter what your interest is you will find a club for it at Wits even sailing!
