University of Venda (Univen)
The University of Venda (UNIVEN) is a dynamic public research university in Thohoyandou, Limpopo Province. Established in 1982, UNIVEN serves over 11,000 students from diverse backgrounds.
Situated in the scenic Vhembe district, UNIVEN specializes in environmental sciences, agriculture, and health sciences, positioned at the forefront of sustainable development. With eight academic schools offering programmes from certificates to PhDs, UNIVEN provides comprehensive educational pathways.

UNIVEN operates a single main campus in Thohoyandou, capital of the Vhembe district in Limpopo Province.

No application fees are charged for 2026 admissions. Tuition fees vary by academic level and programme, with distinct schedules for Engineering, Science, Arts, and Health Sciences.

Financial aid options include: NSFAS, Vice-Chancellor’s Merit Bursary, and DSI/CSIR bursaries for science, engineering, and technology programmes. These can cover tuition, accommodation, textbooks, and learning materials.
UNIVEN is a NSFAS-eligible institution. NSFAS covers tuition fees, accommodation, meals, books, and learning materials. Apply at www.nsfas.org.za.

Funding is evaluated based on academic merit and financial need, with preference for low-income households. Apply early to ensure processing before the academic year begins. Contact the Student Finance Office at (015) 962 8531.
Degree Programmes: NSC with Bachelor’s pass from Umalusi. Minimum achievement rating of 4 (50-59%) in four 20-credit subjects. Minimum APS of 26 for degree entry.
Diploma/Certificate Programmes: NSC with achievement rating of 3 (40-49%) or better in four 20-credit subjects.
Postgraduate: Appropriate undergraduate degree or diploma plus programme-specific requirements. Honours applicants may need to demonstrate research potential.
