Career Overview
The work of a Prosecutor often entails researching an investigating different cases. They gather their information from different groups such as witnesses, victims, officers of the law and possible perpetrators. This will all be compiled to determine whether the case is valid to be presented in caught. Prosecutors, or prosecuting attorneys, are qualified lawyers who appear in magistrates courts representing the government or state.
Required School Subjects
There are no required school subjects however certain institutions require specific pass marks for primary subjects such as languages (English/Home Languages) as well as Mathematics.

Required Qualifications
In order to pursue a career as a Prosecutor one must obtain a South African LLB degree which includes courses such as Law of Evidence, Civil Procedure, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure and Interpretation of Statutes.
Working Hours
Prosecutors typically work regular office hours (9AM – 5PM), however there may often need to do research and other work after hours.
Expected Salary
A Prosecutor starting their career with 1-4 years of experience earns an average total compensation (includes tips, bonus, and overtime pay) of R205 444 (based on 17 salaries). A Prosecutor in the middle of their career with 5-9 years of experience earns an average total compensation of R305 920 (based on 20 salaries). An experienced Prosecutor with 10-19 years of experience earns an average total compensation of R537 000 (based on 11 salaries).
What to Expect
This type of career can be very strenuous and involve a lot of brain work and reading, continuous cross referencing of information in order to compile solid cases. It will also include a lot of communication with different people.
