Old Mutual is offering Accounting bursaries through its Imfundo Trust Scholarship for 2026. This bursary provides financial support to deserving students who are studying towards an accounting degree.

The Old Mutual Accounting Bursary covers everything from accommodation and books to ICAS for psychosocial support. It’s important to note that bursary recipients will be required to undergo a mentorship programme from the third year onwards.

Requirements for the Imfundo Trust Scholarship Bursary

To be eligible for the Imfundo Trust Scholarship, you must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Must be currently in Grade 12 or completing your first year at university (excluding those enrolled in postgraduate Climate Studies).
  • Grade 12 applicants need a minimum average of 70% in their mid-year exams, with at least 70% for Mathematics and 70% for English First Additional Language, or 60% for English Home Language.
  • First-year university students must have earned at least a 65% average in their mid-year exams.
  • Preference will be given to candidates from rural or township communities.

The South African Actuaries Development Programme (SAADP) Bursaries 2025

Bursary application closing date: 31 August 2025

The South African Actuaries Development Programme (SAADP) Bursary is a fantastic opportunity for students who aspire to pursue a career in Actuarial Science. This bursary is specifically awarded to those planning to study at one of the SAADP partner universities, namely the University of Cape Town (UCT), the University of Pretoria (TUKS) or the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits).

Requirements for the South African Actuaries Development Programme (SAADP)

Before applying for the SAADP Bursary, it’s important to meet the minimum entry criteria. Not meeting all the criteria will, unfortunately, result in your application not being considered:

For Matric/Grade 12 Students:

  • You must be a South African citizen.
  • You should currently be in Matric, completing your final year of high school.
  • Achieve a minimum of 80% in Mathematics (Mathematics Literacy is not accepted) in your Matric examinations.
  • Attain a minimum of 80% in Physical Science in your Matric examinations.
  • Obtain a minimum of 80% in English in your Matric examinations.
  • Your intended field of study must be Actuarial Science, and you should plan to commence your studies in 2024.
  • You must have applied to study at one of the SAADP partner universities: University of Cape Town (UCT), University of Pretoria (TUKS) or University of the Witwatersrand (Wits)

To increase your chances of getting accepted, be sure to apply to all three universities. Please note that applications from students intending to study at other universities will not be accepted.

For University Students:

  • You must be a South African citizen.
  • Applicants should come from a previously disadvantaged background.
  • You must be currently pursuing an Actuarial Science qualification.
  • Your academic performance in your 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of study should be outstanding.
  • You should be studying at one of the SAADP partner universities. Students studying at other universities may also apply if they have been accepted into one of the SAADP partner universities.

Engineering Bursaries Open for Applications in 2025

Engineering is a diverse field encompassing various specialisations such as Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical and Mining Engineering. Bursaries for Engineering students are offered by companies, government entities and professional institutions.

SAPPI is a global woodfibre company that has an established bursary scheme in collaboration with accredited South African universities. The SAPPI Bursary scheme aims to provide continuous support to innovative young South Africans throughout their academic journey, aligning their studies with the practical demands of the real-world business landscape.

SAPPI is currently looking for school leavers or university students between the ages of 18 and 25 who are studying (or who would like to study) a Bachelor of Engineering degree full-time at an accredited university

Currently, eligible students should be studying in any one of the below fields in order to qualify for the SAPPI bursary:

  • Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Science – Mechanical Engineering
  • Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Science – Electrical Engineering
  • Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Science – Chemical Engineering

Requirements for SAPPI Bursary

If you’re an Engineering student eager to apply for the SAPPI Bursary, then you’ll need to ensure that you meet the below criteria:

  • You have to be a South African citizen between the ages of 18 to 25
  • You need an average of 70%-80% in Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy) as well as Physical Science and 60% in English
  • You need to have qualifying points for entrance at an accredited university, or an acceptance letter

Note that preference will be given to students who have an average of 75% or above in Mathematics or Physical Science.

Paper Manufacturers Association of South Africa (PAMSA) Bursary

The PAMSA Bursary Programme is specifically tailored for students enrolled in a Master’s in Chemical Engineering at participating universities, including the University of Stellenbosch (Maties), University of Witwatersrand (Wits), University of Pretoria (TUKS) and North-West University (NWU). If you meet the requirements, you could be eligible for two years of full-time study with funding up to R160,000 per year!

With the PAMSA Bursary Programme, not only will you receive financial assistance, but you will also have the chance to enhance your skill set through postgraduate training in specialised areas. These include: 

  • chemical analysis
  • process modelling
  • material flow analysis
  • material and energy balances
  • wood science
  • separation techniques 

This additional training will equip you with advanced knowledge and expertise, setting you apart in the field of Chemical Engineering.

Requirements for the Paper Manufacturers Association of South Africa (PMASA) Bursary

Before applying for this opportunity, it’s important to ensure that you meet the minimum entry criteria. 

  • South African citizenship
  • You must have completed a BSc degree or be in your final year of studies.
  • A minimum overall average of 60% is required for your final year of study
  • A completed BSc qualification within five years or less.
  • A genuine interest in pursuing a full-time Master’s in Chemical Engineering with a specialisation in the pulp, paper, tissue and paper packaging sectors.
  • Your studies should be conducted at one of the following institutions: University of Stellenbosch (Maties), University of Witwatersrand (Wits), University of Pretoria (TUKS), or University of North West (NWU).
  • It’s important to meet the requirements set by your chosen institution for the course of study you intend to pursue.

  • SAMA PhD Supplementary Scholarship
    This scholarship is open to South African citizens who are medical graduates (MBChB or equivalent) and are currently completing a PhD degree. Applicants must already have completed their first year of PhD study. Preference is given to SAMA members. The scholarship provides R100,000, along with tuition fees for the relevant year, and is awarded based on the academic quality and relevance of the research proposal to South Africa’s medical research needs.

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be a medical graduate (MBChB or equivalent) from a South African university

  • For the PhD Scholarship, you must already have completed your first year of PhD study
