Matroosberg Private Nature Reserve is found about two hours outside of Cape Town on a farm called Erfdeel close to the Breede River. There’s no proper cellphone reception and you’re surrounded by mountains. I’m guessing you’re probably wondering why in the world we’d go all the way out there for a weekend away? The answer is simple. Snow. Snow. Snow. You may or may not know this, but you can actually go snowboarding in the mountains of the nature reserve. How crazy is that? Think we’re kidding – check this out.

All set and ready to use our mountain explorer rubber boats (yep, we didn’t have snowboards or skis) we set off to go slip and slide down those snow slopes. Little did we know, the weather was definitely not in our favour – sunshine, some clouds and no snow in sight. Nonetheless we arrived at the snow ski hut ready to have a blaster of a few days away with no signal, some farm dogs and and a beautiful view.
