UCT Online High School is an innovative, fully accredited online secondary education provider affiliated with the prestigious University of Cape Town. Launched in January 2022, the school delivers 100% online learning for learners in Grades 8 through 12 (matric), making world-class education accessible across South Africa. Registered with SACAI, accredited by Umalusi Council.

Currently serving over 4,000 online learners, UCT Online High School provides an affordable, flexible, and high-quality learning ecosystem for learners from all socioeconomic backgrounds. Students complete their secondary education from home while maintaining academic rigor equivalent to traditional schools.

Academic Dates and Key Timelines 2026

  • January 2026: Standard intake for all Grades 8-12 CAPS and Cambridge programmes
  • January 2026: Primary start date for Adult Matric programme

  • Annual Fee Discount Deadline: December 12, 2025 (15% discount on annual payments)
  • Examination Period: October-November 2026 (SACAI Grade 12 examinations)

While January is the primary intake, UCT Online High School accepts applications year-round. Mid-year applicants may undertake placement assessments.

Scholarships and Financial Aid

The Learning Liberated Scholarship & Bursary Programme, supported through the iBhodi Trust, provides substantial financial assistance to deserving learners.

  • Coverage: Partial scholarships covering 80% of tuition fees for full programme duration
  • Exam Fees: Full coverage of SACAI Grade 12 examination fees
  • Academic Requirements: Entry into Grade 8-11, correct age, minimum 50% in English, minimum 50% Maths (Grades 8-10) or 40% (Grade 11)
  • Financial Requirements: Maximum household income R350,000/year or R29,000/month
  • Citizenship: Must be South African citizen residing in SA

Online Learning Platform

UCT Online High School operates entirely online with no physical campuses. All learning takes place on a secure, dedicated platform accessible 24/7.

Cambridge International Curriculum:

  • SA Residents: R3,530/month | Non-RSA: US$246/month
  • Application Fee: R400 | Placement Fee: R4,200 (50% discount available)

Adult Matric: R479/month (18-month programme)

How to Apply to UCT Online High School

The application process is simple and online.

  1. Register as parent/guardian on the UCT Online High School website
  2. Complete the application form with learner details, academic history, and curriculum choice (CAPS or Cambridge)
  3. Upload documents: recent school reports, birth certificate/passport, proof of residency
  4. Placement Assessment (if required) to ensure correct grade placement
  5. Payment & Enrollment – complete first payment to secure your place

Most applications are processed within 5-7 working days. For January intake, submit by November 30 of the previous year.

Admission Requirements

CAPS Curriculum:

  • Appropriate age for grade level
  • Previous school reports demonstrating ability
  • Stable internet connection and laptop/desktop with printer
  • Minimum 50% in English (Home Language)
  • Maths: Minimum 50% (Grades 8-10) or 40% (Grade 11)

Cambridge Curriculum: Completion of Cambridge Secondary 1 or equivalent, demonstrated English and Maths proficiency.

Adult Matric: Must be aged 21+, basic literacy and numeracy skills, commitment to 18-month programme.

New learners may complete a placement assessment to ensure appropriate grade placement.

Courses and Curriculum Options

CAPS Curriculum (Grades 8-12): The South African NSC curriculum with weekly work plans, leading to the matric qualification. Includes mandatory Languages, Mathematics, and elective subjects.

Cambridge International Curriculum: Internationally recognized qualification. Currently available for Year 10 (Grade 10), with Years 11-13 coming soon. Registered as an official Cambridge International School.

Adult Matric Programme (ASC): For working adults aged 21+ who wish to obtain or complete their matric. Self-taught model over 18 months.

Key Features: Weekly structured work plans, subject-specific support, self-paced learning, real-time progress tracking, and support coaches available Monday-Friday 8:00-17:00 SAST.
