JIET welcomes motivated students from diverse educational backgrounds. For advanced programs at N4 level and above, applicants must hold a Grade 12 Certificate (National Senior Certificate) with acceptable achievement levels, or an N3 Qualification from a previous NATED program, or a Level 4 equivalent qualification recognized by SAQA.
For National Certificate Vocational (NCV) programs at Levels 2-4, applicants need a Grade 9, 10, or 11 certificate depending on program level, along with basic literacy and numeracy competency. Some programs may require practical aptitude assessments.

Engineering Trades & Qualifications include National Certificate programs at N1-N3 levels in Electrical Engineering (Light Current), Water Treatment, Motor Diesel Mechanics, Millwright, Fitting & Turning, Boiler Maker, Plumbing, and Bricklaying.
National Diplomas at N4-N6 levels include the National Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current) and National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
