The team at EduOne has been on the lookout for a talented individual in need of funding for tertiary education.  After processing piles of applications, we are happy to announce that the search is over.

EduOne received applications from near and far for our very first EduOne bursary.  It was exciting to receive so many applications from brilliant candidates.  South Africa’s really got talent.  This made sorting through the list of applicants no easy task.

Short List Sorted

We narrowed it down to a few applicants who were sent through to the second round: a gruelling telephonic interview.  Okay, it wasn’t brutally hardcore but it did result in a short list —whoop whoop.  The final decision came down to a team vote. Once the votes were tallied on 30 January, we found our bursary recipient: Herbert Junior Magaya.  The tribe has spoken.

The Chosen One

Herbert (aka. Herb) is an undeniable world-changer-to-be.  He hails from Kempton Park and is loaded with the ambition to make a difference.  This star boy was raised by a single mother and has overcome both social and financial difficulties in life.  Apart from achieving a solid set of results in matric, he has cracked the nod in getting accepted to the University of Pretoria for a BSc (Computer Science).

But wait, there’s more.  Herb describes his best achievement as outranking his friends on League of Legends.  That’s when you know you have met a software developer in the making.  In all seriousness, it was his passion and perseverance that won us over.  Congratulations Herbert!

Let the Herb Grow

The EduOne bursary is nothing like those normal bursaries you hear about these days.  We are all about mentoring and support.  Herb will be able to attend workshops and complete internships with the EduOne team.  We are already proud of Herb and know that he will grow personally as well as in his professional ability through his studies in Pretoria.

Big Ups on the Bursary

Here is a video clip of us letting Herb know he was awarded the bursary.  We were just a little bit excited.  Not sure if you can tell?
