[/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]The best way to stay active in university is to build your own network of enthusiastic people. Whether you want to run, lift weights, try out calisthenics or play sport, you can meet your own fitness requirements while having the most fun by getting in contact with people who want the same thing you do.

This is your opportunity to get creative with how you keep fit and active. Here are some events and facilities that you can use to get fit while studying.

  • Organise your own events

If you are studying at a university, university of technology or college, you probably have sporting and exercise facilities available to you. You can make great use of these by making open Facebook and Whatsapp groups to get people together and organise events.

A friend and I started a basketball Whatsapp group in our final year. We were tired of just playing against each other and wanted to incorporate people who would want to join us. This group soon grew to more than 30 people. Most of them were added by friends who we hadnโ€™t met before, and we soon had more games and sessions going on every week than we could attend.

You can form similar communities based on how you like to exercise and what is available to you at your institution. This could be running and football, or if you have access to public or university grounds: basketball, tennis or the gym. Use Facebook and Whatsapp groups to get your own events off the ground. A network of people interested in the same thing often does most of the work itself, trust me.

Many people dread the thought of exercise. Some people thrive off of it while others avoid it all costs. If you fall into the category of dreading exercise, joining up with friends is a great way to motivate and distract you. I have found that classes and exercise sessions go a lot quicker when there is a friend by your side, laughing and struggling with you as the session goes on.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]
