Top 10 Ways to Stay Fresh this Summer

by admin

School’s out and Summer is fast approaching.  It’s time to pack away the Eskimo clothes, watch sunrises instead of series and get your happy feet on. Here are 10 ways to stay fresh this summer.

Every year at this time, Mother Nature decides to have some fun and tease us a bit. She may think that it is funny, but often times we don’t. Bringing good, sunny weather and then taking it away again is NOT cool. So while we eagerly anticipate the permanent residence of sunshine and pleasant weather, let’s start by being proactive and plan how to have the best summer yet – by feeling fresh, confident and happy!

1. Spring Clean your life

Spring cleaning is a really cool way to start afresh and get rid of those old things you never use. Yes, we know how these might lead you to frustration every time you think about it. The first thing you think about when you hear spring cleaning is probably your cupboards. Something we all avoid for months at a time. It’s a daunting task as we all struggle to get rid of the things we never use but MIGHT use again in the unforeseen future.

Spring cleaning your cupboards is not the only part of your life that could do with some organising. What about your friendships and relationships? There will always be people in your life that you’ll try to make plans but never get much back from them. Or you know those people that seem super interested in our lives but, in actual reality, they just want something from you? My advice: Those people deserve a good old boot to the bottom. Goodbye unhealthy relationships and holey clothes, hello happier you!

2. My Personal Fav Past Time… A Shopping Spree!

What better way to freshen up your summer than with some new additions to your wardrobe? There are some insane new styles and printed, floral trends this summer. There is no excuse to wear the same old tee and old scruffy shorts to stay cool anymore.

If you want some advice from me, here it is. MRP has prepped just for summer and they have some cheap prices to match.  Cheap quality clothing is hard to come by these days, but if you want to have a look at some good options see the latest as they land or shop online now at mrp.com! So just do it, go out there and splurge a little bit.

3. Spice Things up with New Adventures

You don’t always have to go see a movie or go for coffee at your favourite coffee shop with your bestie. We live in such a beautiful country and there is so much to do! It doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. Get out of your comfort zone and try something fun and new. Here are some suggestions:

  • hiking
  • kayaking
  • camping
  • cherry picking
  • even paragliding

These are all amazing things to do.

4. Absorb some Sun Rays.

The first thing you dread when you put shorts on for the first time after winter is those white legs people that you need sunglasses to look at. I too get this feeling each and every summer. Thank goodness for that big ball of burning gas in the sky! A tan is definitely a great way to feel great and look fresh in the summer time.

Grab a book, some awesome tunes and Vitamin D. Or organize a day with your mates to relax in the sun and just catch up with each other.

I know we all feel invincible most of the time, but please do not forget the sunblock! Even if it is only SPF 20, get something to protect your skin while getting an amazing tan. Lobster isn’t a good look for anyone.

5. Update your Playlist

Music is the number one way to amp yourself up and get excited about summer. There are many options out there where you can get the latest music like 8tracks.comsoundcloud.com and beatport.com. Update your playlist, pump the music, crack open the windows and get out there, absorb the sunshine!

6. Plan a Road Trip

There are so many places in South Africa we never hear of, are so beautiful and accessible. So why not pile into the car with all of your mates and head out there. There are many routes along the coast and inland which all lead to heaven on earth. Decide which one you would like to take and go for it. Camping is a great option to not break the budget and it’s a really great way to truly experience the beauty of nature. Try TripAdvisor for some first-hand experience reviews and some guidance.

7. Mini Makeover

I don’t know about you, but I get so bored with my hair and looks. At times it scares me. I have fantasies about chopping the locks to extinction or smearing paint on my face, just for a change. I wouldn’t suggest going that extreme, but I would suggest being slightly more adventurous with yourself. Book an appointment with your hairdresser and try something new, whether it be bangs, layers or even a bold green streak in your hair. A hair cut always helps you feel light, bouncy and super fresh. Many retail stores and pharmacies have cosmetic sections with ladies ready and willing to help you find a new look that suits you.

8. Take on a new Hobby or Freshen up on an old one

Does your guitar have dust samples old enough for scientists to discover new life? Or are have you been daydreaming about obtaining incredible archery skill like Katniss Everdeen? Well dust off your guitar, make a few calls and do it! If you wait until you have time or money to learn a new skill or improve your skill – it will never happen. With sources like YouTube available, you really do not need to spend a lot to learn a new skill, it’s literally a click away. So take that guitar, make a fire and chill with your mates singing old school tunes and roasting marshmallows.

9. Be Healthy and Stay Fit

Banting is everywhere. It haunts you. To be honest, all of the banting talks drive me nuts. WE GET IT, you’re eating healthy while we’re stuffing our faces with junk food. If you’re doing banting and it works for you, then I am really happy for you, I really am. But banting does not allow the healthy, yumminess of all the delicious fruits summer brings with it.

Take advantage of the delicious summer fruits to kick-start healthy living, freshen up on a hot day and just because it is that amazing. You also no longer have the “it’s so cold and miserable outside” excuse (I use it ALL the time). Go do some hiking, berry picking or take daily dips in the pool. For those living in Cape Town, check out our budget-friendly options. Summer is an amazing time to stay fresh with healthy foods and fitness.

10. Release your Inner Child

Admit it, children are beasts. Amazing, creative, uncaring beasts. I often wish I had the carefree attitude of a child again. You don’t care what you’re wearing, who sees you doing something silly, whether it’s cool or not to wear a bucket on your head or climb a tree. I want that again and I’m pretty sure you do too. So go to the beach and search the shoreline for the brightest seashells, go to water parks and run around excitedly from one ride to the next. Order a happy meal because you actually REALLY want that Minion freebie. If you’re too lazy to take potty breaks, wear a nappy. Who cares right?? You’re a child beast again!
