TUT Application Fees 2027 — Full Breakdown

The application fee at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) for the 2027 academic year is R240. This fee is compulsory for all first-time applicants and must be deposited into TUT’s designated ABSA bank account before your application can be processed. If you have not yet started your application, see our full guide on how to apply to TUT.

When to Pay and Key Dates

First-year and undergraduate applications for the 2027 academic year open on 1 April 2026. Application deadlines are listed under each programme in TUT’s prospectus, and a programme may close at any time when it is full, even if the deadline has not yet passed.

The 2026 Prospectus Part 9 describes the application fee as paid “in respect of all first applications to the Tshwane University of Technology.” The fee is payable once only — if you have previously applied to and been registered at TUT, you do not pay it again. The Council of TUT reserves the right to adjust fees without prior notice.

Is the Application Fee the Same for All Programmes?

Yes. The R240 application fee is the same regardless of programme level. TUT’s official documents describe it as applying to “all first applications”, with no distinction between undergraduate, postgraduate (Honours, Masters, PhD), or diploma applicants.

International applicants pay the same R240 application fee. However, international students who are accepted and register will pay an additional international levy of R1,900 per year on top of their tuition fees. Asylum seekers, refugees, and diplomats stationed in South Africa are exempt from the international levy.

Other Fees to Know About (After Acceptance)

The application fee is separate from the fees you pay after being accepted. Here is what comes next:

Fee Amount When It Is Due Source
Confirmation payment R1,500 Within 3 working days of acceptance letter 2026 Prospectus, s1.3.1
Initial registration payment R1,500 minimum Before registration 2026 Prospectus, s1.3.2.1
Student services fee R550 On registration (non-refundable) 2026 Prospectus, s1.5.15
Student Extracurricular Fee (SEF) R760 On registration (compulsory) 2026 Prospectus, s1.6
TLT Lab Fee R190 On registration 2026 Prospectus, s1.5.26
International levy R1,900 On registration (international students only) 2026 Prospectus, s1.5.16

The confirmation payment of R1,500 reserves your place in the programme. If you do not pay within three working days of receiving your acceptance letter, your place is automatically cancelled.

This ABSA account is designated “exclusively for application fee” payments. Do not use other TUT bank accounts for this payment.

For tuition and registration fees (paid later), TUT also accepts credit cards, debit cards, cheques (bank guaranteed), and electronic payments. No cash payments are accepted on any TUT campus for tuition. International students can pay tuition via Flywire at tut.flywire.com.

Is the TUT Application Fee Refundable?

No. The TUT application fee is strictly non-refundable. The 2026 Prospectus confirms: “It is not refundable.”

This applies regardless of the outcome of your application. Whether you are accepted, placed on a waiting list, or your application is unsuccessful, the R240 fee will not be refunded.

Note that the R1,500 confirmation payment (paid after acceptance) is treated differently: a student who is prevented from registering for a valid reason — for example, failing Grade 12 — can receive a refund of that payment minus R220.

Fee Waivers or Exemptions

TUT does not advertise any waiver or exemption for the R240 application fee. No mention of fee waivers for NSFAS recipients, returning students, or any other category appears in the 2026 Prospectus Part 9 or the 2027 General Information document.

The fee is described as “compulsory for all first-time applicants”. If you have previously applied to and registered at TUT, you may not need to pay it again, since the fee applies to “first applications” only.

TUT has issued a scam warning reminding prospective students that the university “will NOT charge any prospective student money for making enquiries” and that “it is fraud to pay anyone for placement at the University.” The only legitimate application-related payment is the R240 fee deposited into TUT’s official ABSA account.
