5 Exam Tips For The Night Before

by admin

For many students, this time of year means that exams are just around the corner  (if not already on your doorstep) – not that anyone needs reminding of this daunting fact. While exams often mean stress, stress and more stress, this can easily be avoided (at least to a certain extent).

Tell me more about Exam Tips!

We all know that the best way to avoid this stress is through preparation. However, this is always easier said than done. While the most important exam preparation includes a lot of studying, far in advance, there are still smaller preparations that can be done to ensure smooth sailing during the exam period.

‘Twas the Night before the Exam…

Here are some of our night-before-the-exam top tips:

1. Double Check the exam time and Venue.

You’ve probably heard some horror stories of students arriving to write an exam just as it’s ending or even rocking up a day late. This may seem a bit far-fetched, but be warned, it can happen to the best of us. Knowing the date, time and venue of your exam may sound obvious, but it’s often easy to overlook small details – especially when you’re feeling stressed and have a lot on your mind. You will definitely be kicking yourself if you end up being late – or even completely missing an exam –  because of something as trivial as getting the time or venue wrong.

2. Make sure you have Everything you need.

This includes specific stationery such as a calculator, a ruler or a certain colour pen that some exams may require. Make sure to check BEFORE you get to school. On that note, make sure the stationery that you have is actually working (and even get back-ups just in case). There’s nothing worse than your one pen running out 10 minutes into your exam. Other things to remember include your student card (if you’re at university) or your ID (if you are writing matric).

As we approach the dreaded academic season, it’s a good idea to get prepped early on how to ace those exams.[/vc_cta][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

3. Have your bag Packed and Ready to go.

Now that you have everything you need, it’s time to pack it all into your bag. Again, this may sound simple, but having your bag packed and ready to go will save you some time in the morning and will help you to avoid leaving anything behind.

4. Prep your Breakfast (and Snacks!).

It is important to be well fueled for an exam, as concentrating and writing for hours at a time takes a toll on your brain and body. That’s why having a filling and nutritious breakfast prepped for the morning will ensure you have enough time to have a good meal without the rush in the morning. If you have a long day ahead of you or are writing multiple exams in the day, make sure to also prepare some snacks to keep your stamina up throughout the day.

However, deciding what those snacks will be can be pretty tricky. We’ll give you a hand![/vc_cta][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

5. Give your notes a final read over and then have an early night.

Easier said than done, but trust us – nothing good will come of a coffee-fueled-all-nighter. So take our advice and give your notes a final read and then call it a day (especially if you have an early exam the next morning). Also try avoid watching ‘just one episode’ of your favourite series before bed, or scrolling through Instagram and Facebook. Studies have show that limiting screen time before bed can help you fall asleep more easily.

While there is definitely more to acing an exam than simply packing a bag and having an early night, these tips will definitely help contribute to a less stressful and better prepared exam experience!
