Key Dates You Can’t Miss

Step-by-Step Application Guide

Eager to apply to the University of the Western Cape (UWC)? Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do just that:

1. Explore and Choose Your Programmes

Begin with the online programme brochure to explore available courses. Each programme has specific entry criteria—check the general admissions guide and faculty-specific requirements before making your selection.

2. Prepare Your Documents

Gather and certify all necessary supporting documents at least three months before applying. Here’s what you may need:

  • Certified ID copy or passport

  • Latest Matric or senior certificate (if already matriculated)

  • For current Grade 12s, no initial documents are needed—just your exam results when they’re ready

  • If transferring: transcript and conduct certificate

  • International students: USAf evaluation and SAQA certificate

3. Apply Online

When the portal opens on 2 April 2025, visit UWC’s online portal and:

  1. Create a profile using a valid email.

  2. Select up to two programme choices (Dentistry counts as one)

  3. Fill in personal and academic details.

  4. Submit the form and click “Accept” to complete your application

There is no application fee, ensuring access for all.

4. Acknowledgment & Document Upload

Once submitted, you’ll receive an applicant number via email which you’ll use to upload documents such as Matric certificates, IDs, or academic records—depending on your status. Current Grade 12 learners do not need to upload anything initially.

5. Offers & Acceptance

UWC will review applications after Matric results are released—January 2026 for current students, mid-December for post-matric and transfer applicants. Offers must be accepted within the specified timeframe, or they will lapse. If you miss the deadline, contact the admissions office immediately

6. Register and Begin Your Journey

Once your offer is confirmed, follow UWC’s guidance to:

  • Register for modules

  • Apply separately for residence, as housing is not guaranteed

  • Apply for NSFAS or other funding (UWC does not process NSFAS applications)
  • Attend orientation and welcome events

Be Competitive: Meet Entry Requirements

A Bachelor’s pass with at least four 20-credit NSC subjects at Level 4 (50–59%) is required. But this is just the minimum. High-demand degrees—like BCom, BSc, LLB, BDS—require specific subject marks and higher overall points.

Selection is competitive: meeting entry requirements doesn’t guarantee acceptance. UWC considers academic performance, space availability, and programme-specific criteria.

Expert Tips for a Strong Application

To improve your chances:

  • Apply early on 2 April to avoid being waitlisted.

  • Submit your qualifications and documents promptly after applying.

  • Select two programmes strategically, keeping flexibility in mind.

  • For high-demand courses, review faculty admission criteria carefully.

  • Contact the admissions centre if anything needs updating—like change of address or study programme
