Note: All applicants must apply online and are encouraged to apply as early as possible in the application cycle, which commences in April every year and closes September each year.

When Do 2026 Applications Open and Close?

Applications for 2026 admission at UniVen are open from 1 April 2025 and are expected to close on 30 September 2025. These deadlines apply to both undergraduate and postgraduate applicants. Late applications are generally not accepted, so it’s important to apply on time.

You can apply at any time during this window, but it’s strongly advised to submit your application as early as possible. Doing so improves your chances of getting space in high-demand programmes.

UniVen Online Application Process

Here are some things to note when doing an online application for the University of Venda:

  1. You’ll need a South African ID number or passport number for international students, a 10-digit valid cell phone number and an email address to complete the application. Don’t have an email address? Get an email address first.
  2. You will be required to create a 5-digit PIN for your application process. 
  3. Once you have completed the online application, click the submit button and upload all the required documents. 
  4. Make sure you complete the application in full (so that there’s no delay from the university).
  5. After submitting your application, you will receive a student number. Obtaining a student number does not guarantee acceptance.

How to Apply to UniVen: Step-by-Step

Applying to UniVen is a fully online process, which means no paper forms or physical submissions. All you need is an internet connection, your documents, and a valid email address.

Step 1: Decide What to Study

Before applying, explore the full list of qualifications offered at the university. The university’s website has an updated brochure that outlines each course, including:

  • Entry requirements

  • Duration

  • Career opportunities

  • Subjects you’ll study each year

Step 2: Gather Your Documents

To ensure your application is processed smoothly, prepare all your required documents in advance. These should be clear, scanned copies in PDF format.

You will need:

  • A certified copy of your South African ID (or passport if you’re an international student)

  • Final Grade 11 results (for current Matrics)

  • Grade 12 June/Trial results (if available)

  • National Senior Certificate (if you’ve already matriculated)

  • Proof of any post-school qualifications or transcripts (for transfer students)

  • A working email address and cellphone number

Note: If your documents are not submitted correctly or are blurry, your application may be delayed or rejected.

Step 3: Apply Online via the UniVen Website

Once you’ve got everything ready, head over to the UniVen Online Application Portal and follow the prompts.

  • Register as a new applicant

  • Fill in your personal information

  • Select your programme choices (you may be allowed to choose up to two)

  • Upload all your supporting documents

  • Review and submit your application

There is a non-refundable application fee of R100 for South African applicants and R200 for international applicants. This must be paid before your application can be processed.

Use the reference number provided when making payment and keep proof of payment safe—you’ll need it later.

Step 4: Track Your Application Status

After submitting your application, you’ll receive a reference or student number via email. This number allows you to check your application status at any time on the UniVen portal.

UniVen usually communicates via email and SMS, so check your inbox and phone regularly for updates.

How to Upload Your Supporting Documents

To complete your application or update your student records, please follow the step-by-step guide for uploading your documents to the Student Portal. Ensure your documents are scanned and saved in PDF format before uploading.

Transferring and international students should also ensure that all transcripts and academic records are submitted in PDF format before uploading on the university portal as well as the final transcript of current studies being undertaken.

Once you have applied, keep a lookout for your admission status on the university’s website under- Apply – check application and admission status. You are encouraged to monitor your application status at all times.
