You may be wondering, when are the final matric marks going to be released, and where do you need to go in order to get your certificate? Here is everything you need to know about getting your matric results in 2022.

2022 Matric Results Release Date

How to Check Your 2022 Matric Results

1. Find Your 2022 Matric Results Online

The best way to check for your matric results online is to visit the Department of Education website.  Expect a delayed response or loading time, as the website will be incredibly busy due to everyone checking for their matric results.

Note that this won’t affect your results in any way, and you will still receive your full matric results once the webpage has loaded.

Once you’re successfully on the website, you can check your matric results by doing the following:

  • Go onto the 2022 SC Examination Results section of the Department of Basic Education’s website.
  • Enter your exam number in the given field (be careful not to misplace this during the school holidays!)
  • Enter your Home Language
  • Fill in Your personal details (name, surname, etc.)

Note that this applies to learners who attended a South African public school only. If you attended a private school, you can find your final matric results for 2022 on the IEB website.

Both public school and private school learners can alternatively find their matric results through the News24 matric results portal.

2. Check Your 2022 Matric Results in the Newspaper

All South African matriculants can find their results in local newspapers papers such as The RapportThe Argus, and The Star.

Results are normally published to align with the Department’s matric results release date, which will occur on 19 January 2023.

If you’re worried about your matric marks being available for the entire country to see, don’t be. The newspapers will only publish your pass mark, so whether or not you passed and the symbol with which you passed.

If you’re thinking, “what symbols?”, don’t worry, we got you. Here are all the matric pass symbols and what they mean:

  • Level 7: 80 – 100% (Outstanding)
  • Level 6: 70 – 79% (Meritorious)
  • Level 5: 60 – 69% (Substantial)
  • Level 4: 50 – 59% (Moderate)
  • Level 3: 40 – 49% (Adequate)
  • Level 2: 30 – 39% (Elementary)
  • Level 1: 0 – 29% (Not achieved)

3. Get Your 2022 Matric Results Through Your High School

Your high school will release your results the day after the Department of Education has released the final matric marks for 2022, which will be on 20 January 2023.

Your matric results will reflect your marks for each one of your subjects; however, note that this documentation is not your matric certificate. Your official matric certificate will only be given to you after it has been printed in full after a few months.

Your school will be able to provide you with the exact information regarding when you will be able to fetch your matric certificate.
