Becoming a Holiday Productivity Machine

Holiday time is time to switch off and relax but it’s also an opportunity to start a hobby/project or do some vac work to become a productivity machine in your holidays.  Devan sheds some light on how you can get “hashtag holiday productivity” trending.

To say that the June and December holidays are really long would be an understatement. They are unlike any other holiday on earth (besides, maybe, American summer holidays). I dearly miss those 3-month long university holiday breaks with little pressure or worries. Or not having to be anywhere or attend lectures. Or, and perhaps most importantly, not having your parents on your back complaining that you’re being lazy (I speak for myself at least). It is a very unique time in our lives.

I have very few regrets in life, but not using my university holidays to my advantage is certainly up there with the few that I do have. I would spend weeks on end literally going from my bed to the couch, then to the fridge (only to find no food!), then back to the couch, to the fridge again.  Of course, I would head to the shower at some point and then back to my comfy bed.  Then I would repeat the same routine the very next day. And the next. And quite possibly the next too. In hindsight, this was a mistake and if I could turn back the clock, I would do things very differently.

Final words

Holidays are both a time to switch off and a time to keep going. Using the holidays to your advantage is something that I would highly recommend and something that will benefit you later in life. I understand that holidays are a time to recharge after a long academic year, but you certainly can allow for a holiday that meets this need whilst being fun and productive!

Finding a balance between being productive and still relaxing can become tricky. Write a list of things you would like to achieve during your holidays (like building a guitar) and put it within eyesight. This way you will always be aware of what needs to be done, how much time is needed and when you can or can’t vegetate a little.
