Universities that Accept Late Applications for 2023
Universities are fairly strict when it comes to deadlines, so you already missed out on late applications for 2023 to institutions such as the University of Cape Town (UCT), University of South Africa (UNISA), University of the Witwatersrand (Wits University) and Stellenbosch University (Maties).
Luckily, there are universities in South Africa that are more forgiving and are still allowing students to apply to study for the year 2023.Â
University of Fort Hare (UFH) Late Applications
The University of Fort Hare (UFH) will officially close its doors for late applications on 31 October 2022.Â
Prospective students wanting to apply to the University of Fort Hare still have a few days left and can send their applications for free online, or pay R120 to register manually.Â

North-West University (NWU) Late Applications
The North-West University (NWU) officially closed its applications for undergraduates on 31 August 2022. However, applications for various Honours and Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates are still open at certain faculties and the dates are as follows:
- Late application dates for Economic Sciences: 30 October 2022
- Late application dates for Management Sciences: 31 October 2022
- Late application dates for Industrial Psychology and Human ResourceManagement: 31 August 2022
- Late application dates for Accounting Sciences: 30 November 2022
- Late application dates for PGDIP (Operations Administration): 15 December 2022
Honours Applications for the Faculty of Engineering at NWU close on 31 October 2022. The application closing dates for the following Postgraduate diplomas also occur on the same date:
- Nuclear Science and Technology
- Nuclear Science and Technology with Nuclear Technology Management
- Industrial Engineering
The closing date for applications occurred between 31 July 2022 and 30 September, however, applications for a Postgraduate Diploma in Cosmetic Product Formulation are still open and close on 31 January 2023.

- Chemistry: 31 October 2022
- Mathematics: 30 November 2022
- Applied Mathematics: 30 November 2022
- Environmental Geology: 31 October 2022
- Ecological Interactions and Ecosystem Resilience: 31 October 2022
- Biodiversity and Conservation Ecology: 31 October 2022
- Aquatic Ecosystem Health: 31 October 2022
- Integrated Pest Management: 31 October 2022
- Geography and Environmental Management: 31 October 2022
- Hydrology and Geohydrology: 31 October 2022
University of Pretoria (TUKS) Late Applications
Although late applications for the University of Pretoria (TUKS) closed on 30 June 2022, non-selection programmes within certain faculties of the university have no set closing date and will only close once the spaces have been filled.Â
Non-selection programmes can be found within each one of the following faculties:
- Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences
- Faculty of Education
- Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology
- Faculty of Humanities
- Faculty of Law
- Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences
- Faculty of Theology and ReligionÂ
University of Mpumalanga (UMP) Late Applications
If you’re an undergraduate student applying to the University of Mpumalanga (UMP), then you’ll be happy to know that late applications close on 30 November 2022.Â
With that said, prospective students looking to apply for a Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase Teaching have already missed the closing date for applications, which occurred on 30 September 2022.
The University of Mpumalanga also outlines the closing dates for its other academic programmes, including the following:
- Honours Programmes, Advanced Diplomas and Postgraduate Diplomas: 30 November
- Masters and Doctoral Programmes: 15 January 2023Â
Walter Sisulu University (WSU) Late Applications
Late applications to Walter Sisulu University (WSU) close on 31 October for South African citizens and already closed on 30 September for international applicants.Â
It’s important to note that WSU only accepts online applications, and anyone looking to apply can do so via their online registration platform.
It is entirely free to register and all you need to do is have the following information ready:
- Your personal details (name, surname, ID number, address)
- The address of your next of kin as well as the person responsible for your account
- Your email address
Universities of Technology that Accept Late Applications for 2023
A majority of late applications have already closed for the universities of technology in South Africa. Most closing dates occurred between the end of August and September.Â
If you have missed out, be sure to refer to the list of universities of technology below in order to prepare for their next opening dates in 2023:
- Central University of Technology (CUT)
- Durban University of Technology (DUT)
- Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT)
- Tshwane University of Technology (TUT)
- Vaal University of Technology (VUT)
The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) is still open for late applications, but not for long. For more detailed information about applications that are still open at CPUT, read more below and be sure to get your documentation ready before the closing date arrives.
Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) Late Applications
Late applications for the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) opened on Monday, 24 October and will close on Friday, 4 November.
According to CPUT, only a few spaces are available and you need to fall into one of the following categories of applicants to apply:
- Applicants who have not already applied during the regular application times
- Applicants who have exhausted 1 or 2 options out of the total of 3 for applications during the regular application period
- Students who are transferring from other tertiary institutions
- Previous CPUT students who took a gap year and would like to continue with their studies
- Students partaking in the phasing out programmes
- Students applying for Advanced Diplomas or Postgraduate studies
TVET Colleges Open for Late Applications 2023
There are a multitude of TVET colleges located throughout South Africa, and each one has various closing dates that are dependent on the courses and programmes on offer.
Central Johannesburg TVET College
Late applications for the Central Johannesburg TVET College are set to close for new students on 26 November 2022. Returning students have a bit of extra time, and will be able to apply up until 30 December 2022.
The Central Johannesburg TVET College offers a range of qualifications with four schools to choose from.
Prospective students can choose to study part-time or on a full-time basis in selected programmes and are able to apply to the college online.

College of Cape Town
Applications for the College of Cape Town opened on 1 August 2022 and will close on 31 October 2022.Â
Holding the title of the oldest TVET College in South Africa, the College of Cape Town TVET College boasts the latest technology and facilities for students to use.
Students are not liable for any registration fee (meaning you can apply for free) and general tuition ranges from R2 000 to R42 000.
Ehlanzeni TVET College
Late applications for Ehlanzeni TVET College will close on 31 October 2022. Ehlanzeni TVET College is located in Ehlanzeni in Mpumalanga and has recently renovated its campuses with new computer rooms.
The application fee for this TVET college is R200 and students can apply through their website online.
TVET Colleges Open for Applications Year-round
There are courses available at several TVET colleges that are open for applications throughout the year, so prospective students can apply at any point.
