Universities that Accept Late Applications for 2025
Universities are fairly strict when it comes to deadlines, so you already missed out on late applications for 2023 to institutions such as the University of Cape Town (UCT), University of South Africa (UNISA), University of the Witwatersrand (Wits University) and Stellenbosch University (Maties).
Luckily, there are universities in South Africa that are more forgiving and are still allowing students to apply to study for the year 2025.Â
University of Mpumalanga (UMP) Late Applications
The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) is still accepting late applications for 2025. Applications for undergraduate programmes close on 30 November 2024.
Prospective students applying for honours, advanced diplomas, and postgraduate diplomas can apply until 15 January 2025. Master’s and doctoral programmes have an extended deadline of 31 January 2025.
Application Fees:
- South African citizens: R200
- SADC applicants: R400
- International applicants outside Africa: R550
Walter Sisulu University (WSU) Late Applications
Late applications at Walter Sisulu University (WSU) close in February 2025 for Masters and phD students.
Note that WSU only accepts online applications. Applicants must have the following information ready:
- Personal details (e.g., name, ID number, address)
- Next of kin and account payer details
- A valid email address

Universities of Technology That Accept Late Applications for 2025
A majority of late applications have already closed for the universities of technology in South Africa. Most closing dates occurred between the end of August and September.Â
If you have missed out, be sure to refer to the list of universities of technology below in order to prepare for their next opening dates in 2025:
- Central University of Technology (CUT)
- Durban University of Technology (DUT)
- Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT)
- Tshwane University of Technology (TUT)
- Vaal University of Technology (VUT)
The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) is still open for late applications, but not for long. For more detailed information about applications that are still open at CPUT, read more below and be sure to get your documentation ready before the closing date arrives.
Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) Late Applications
The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) is accepting late applications for select programmes from November 2024.
CPUT welcomes late applications from the following groups:
- Applicants who missed the regular application period
- Students transferring from other institutions
- Previous CPUT students resuming their studies after a gap year
- Those applying for advanced diplomas or postgraduate studies
Spaces are limited, so apply as soon as possible!
Application Fees:
- Online applications: Free
- Hard copy applications: R100
TVET Colleges Open for Late Applications 2025
Several TVET colleges across South Africa are still accepting late applications. Here’s a list of those with upcoming deadlines:
Central Johannesburg TVET College
According to Central Johannesburg TVET College, late applications for new students will remain open until 5 February 2025.
Central Johannesburg TVET College offers a variety of full-time and part-time courses, and applications can be submitted online.

- No application fee is required.
False Bay TVET College
Late applications for selected NC(V) programmes at False Bay TVET College are open until 29 November 2024. Known for its state-of-the-art facilities and focus on student success, False Bay is an excellent choice for prospective students.
Application Fee:
- No application fee is required.
TVET Colleges Open for Applications Year-round
There are courses available at several TVET colleges that are open for applications throughout the year, so prospective students can apply at any point.
This includes, but is not limited to, the following institutions:
- Capricorn TVET College
- Coastal TVET College
- Ekurhuleni East TVET College
- Ekurhuleni West TVET College
- Elangeni TVET College
- Esayidi TVET College
